Home Theatre

What is a home theatre?

Building a home theatre isn’t just about buying the best gear—it’s about designing a space where everything works together to deliver an immersive experience. A poorly designed room with expensive equipment can easily be outclassed by a well designed room with more affordable equipment – even equipment 2-3 times cheaper!

Here’s a closer look at the often-overlooked factors that we consider during our design process that really makes a difference. Click each item to get a better idea of whats involved.

Dealing with the initial room

Bonello Frequencies – The science of a room’s shape

Before a single speaker goes in, we consider the room itself. Using principles like the Bonello frequency distribution, we shape the room—sometimes even building new walls inside existing ones—to control how sound behaves. A well-proportioned room leads to clearer audio and fewer acoustic issues. It can also help with the next point – Sound Isolation

  • Sound Isolation – Keeping Sound Where It Belongs

A great theatre should be a private experience, a portal to another world. That means blocking out outside interference and noise, while also keeping your system from disturbing the rest of the house. From air-sealed doors to floating ceilings and decoupled walls, proper sound isolation lets your theatre shine without distractions.

  • Sound Control – Why Quiet Rooms Sound Better

Why can you hear better in a quieter room? Because there are fewer distractions, allowing you to focus on what matters. The quieter the room, the more dynamic your system can be. You’ll hear whispers as clearly as explosions. Fans in equipment whirring. Aircons buzzing. Doors rattling.  We deal with all of it, leading to a quieter noise floor for you.

  • Light Control – Because Darkness Reveals Detail
Remember the climactic Game of Thrones episode that everyone said was too dark to see? While not everything you watch is as bad as that, the problem wasn’t only the episode—it was uncontrolled light. Light reflections can wash out your image and ruin contrast. That’s why ensuring we have proper control of the light in your room is important. From dark walls and ceilings, to blackout curtains and shutters, a darker room lets your projector or TV do its best work, allowing you to see everything in that dim episode, and makes your movies pop for everything else.
  • Room Cooling – Comfort Without Compromise
Projectors, amplifiers, and people all produce heat. Aircon in a theatre room is a must for us in Australia. But not all cooling systems are created equal. Most ducted aircon systems don’t have a return air vent, meaning when the door is shut, there’s no airflow! Additionally, ducted air systems can create visible heat waves that distort your image. We plan air flow carefully (ie: moving grills to downward firing, on the edges of the room) to avoid noise and visual interference while keeping the room comfortable.
